Gene was a good friend. We served together in the Army while stationed at Fort Richardson, Alaska and stayed in touch since then. We shared many a laugh, and I marveled at his love for old TV shows, movies, and music. In 2001, I and two other Army friends came to St. Louis at Gene's invitation and had a marvelous weekend get together. He arranged for us to tour the Fox Theater, and also take a cruise on a riverboat down the Mississippi. He was a great guy, and I am the better person for having known him.
